The Stick Has Been Passed

Okay. I've been poked with a Magic Reach by [livejournal.com profile] lovecraftienne, so now onto the Book Meme...

1) Total number of books in your house:

Do I have to count? Lots. Hundreds. Reference ones, and biographical ones, and children's ones, and graphic ones, and gaming ones, and ancient ones, and so much more.

2) The last book you bought was:

Aside from giving my money to the nice people at Now and Then for flat paper objects, No One Noticed the Cat by Anne McCaffrey for my at-the-time unborn babe (this was last summer. I have so many yet to be read, and I still want to buy more. And I miss working at LSC...free books...*shudder in delight*)

3) What was the last book you read before reading this?

Again, aside from a comic book, Terry Pratchett's A Hat Full of Sky.

4) Write down 5 books you often read or that mean a lot to you.

Last Hero, Terry Pratchett
Archangel, Sharon Shinn
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, Chris Moore
Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
American Gods, Neil Gaiman

5) Who are you going to pass the Magic Reach stick to (three people) and why?

[livejournal.com profile] sorceressmedea, a fellow classicist and I'm curious to know what she's translating, er, reading...:)
[livejournal.com profile] angeliquewisom on account that I don't know much about her and would like to know more.
[livejournal.com profile] hollygoth 'cause she works in a library, and must be tempted to read surrounded by all those books.

See, now that wasn't so painful, was it? And now we know more about you. :)

I think I may be the only person on my flist who doesn't like Terry Pratchett. I've tried on three occasions, with three different books (don't ask me the names, they didn't keep me beyond a chapter each). Strange. Almost everyone I know thinks he's the cat's laughter, but it just isn't there for me. For my funny f/sf books, I go to Robert Rankin (Witches of Chiswick, Apocalyptic Chocolate Bunnies from Hell - the latter may not be word-for-word accurate), or Tom Hoth (too many to mention).

"Last Hero" is like a regular Discworld novel in that it contains the characters familiar to that universe, but it's different in a way that I can't qualify. The writing is more mature. You might like it. But, then again, you might not. :)

Read "Lamb"...trust me. You'll be laughing so hard your sides will hurt. *Especially* after that rant about the Pope's funeral...everything will be made clear. :)

Lamb? Can't find it. Is it Gaiman's?

Chris Moore. It's very funny. It's also the only written word that would dare to cover those twelve years of Jesus' life that aren't covered in the Bible...:)

I just put a hold on it at the public library> :D
