I have discovered that a constant stream of political dumb shitfuckery is a detriment to my desire to read. Last year, I only managed to read 45 books and did very little writing. I can only hope that this year will be better.

January:
  1. Strange Love - Ann Aguirre (reread)
  2. Somewhere Beyond the Sea - TJ Klune (bad decisions book club)
  3. A Werewolf's Guide to Seducing a Vampire - Sarah Hawley

February:
  1. The Next Best Fling - Gabriella Gamez
  2. Magic Kingdom for Sale--Sold! - Terry Brooks (reread)
  3. Black Unicorn - Terry Brooks (reread)

March:
  1. A Gentleman's Gentleman - TJ Alexander

January 11 - I finished this reread a couple of days ago. It was still enjoyable, still lovely, and I still recommend it. My brain has been shying away from anything new, so whilst I have been buying books, I have not been reading them. Here's hoping that I can make a dent in my TBR piles, both physical and digital.

January 14 - Two books already! Let's fucking go! Another great read from TJ Klune, the sequel to The House on the Cerulean Sea. It had a villain that I clocked as that transphobic human stain (you know, the writer), who gets her comeuppance in a way that is satisfying and I sincerely wished could happen in the real world. She is trash, her views are trash, and it's pretty great to have someone write down what they would like her fate to be. Aside from that, it, like the first, is a warm hug from a loved one, full of found family and delightful scamps and people doing the best they can to make the world a better place.

February 10 - I started a contemporary yesterday, and I have one gripe: no dual POV. I don't care that it's written in first person present tense; that's pretty damned common in fanfic spaces. BUT, not having the inner thoughts of the male lead? I find it irksome. It's a romance and I am invested in the couple, not just the female reader insert female lead.

I do have one very big positive: NO ENTRANCE. There's been one on-page sexytimes, and no godsbedamned "entrance". Thank fuck. (It is also very possible that it was there and I just glossed over it, because I am, generally speaking, already over it - not my dislike of the word, but its use.)

My previous read was decent: a paranormal with a bonkers premise. A bit twee, but I knew that going in. All-in-all, an enjoyable way to while away the hours.

February 24 - I found the first five Landover books used (last year? year before? Ugh. Time has no meaning anymore) and it's been AAAAAAGES since I read them. I remember really enjoying them, but was leery about how they held up, given the series started in 1986. So far, it seems, so good. I am, though, giving a the book a little wiggle room, as a lot has changed in the world in 40 years, but there has been nothing overtly gross or off-putting as of yet.

February 28 - The Landover books hold up thus far. Will that change once I get past the Black Unicorn? Only time will tell. I am, though, enjoying them, and that right there is good enough for me.

March 9 - Setting aside Landover for a moment for a trans Regency historical romance. If nothing else, it gives my brain a break from not just a fantasy setting, but also the dumb shitfuckery going on in the world.
