Uh, Murderbot? SecUnit? YOU NEED THERAPY. While your inorganic parts are running as optimal as ever, it's your squishy human bits that need some love. After everything you've been through, your PTSD is showing. Get some help, or I'll ask ART to sit on you. No hugs, because you don't like/want to be touched, but you're worrying your humans and that has to stop now.

(So many of us identify with Murderbot: it's just doing its best, you know? And it's often surprised that humans want it around and value more than just its processing speed and security protocols. Emotions are hard, okay?)

Also, go watch the show. It's pretty great and is hitting all the right beats, even if "it's not the same as the book" it has the feel of them. And of course it's not the same! It can't be! What I imagine when I read is not what the author, Martha Wells, imagined when she put down the words, and it won't be what the showrunners imagined when they started the heavy lifting of translating text-to-visual. The special effects are top notch, Corporation Rim is as awful as you expect, and the acting is superb. Like SecUnit (who often wonders what it's doing with its face) I don't know if Alexander Skarsgård knows what he's doing with his face (and if he does, he's conveying that "not knowing" perfectly).

One good thing about keeping track of one's reading is noting when it slows way down. Because of the weather and the construction and the cat (who is still peeing on the floor - I now think it's in protest of the construction noise which I can do NOTHING about), my brain is eating myself. I'm heading into a 'meh' phase where reading is not a thing that holds my attention for longer than fifteen minutes. I did finish Memory Called Empire and really enjoyed it, but picking up another book right now, whether dead tree or electronic, isn't doing anything for me right now.

To that end, I started catching up on some of the Netflix shows that I am seriously behind in that I can't watch when Declan is around for various reasons (and one or two seasons adds up over multiple shows). I've started with season 4 of Castlevania because a) each episode is less than 30 minutes, b) it's fucking great, and c) did I mention it's fucking great? The first season is four episodes, roughly movie-length when binged all at once, Trevor Belmont is deeply cynical and fucking tired and I just identify with him so much, it's gory and visceral and gorgeously animated, and it never feels like the video game it's based on.

I saw Avengers: Endgame yesterday. Holy fuck, that was intense. There was some humour, and some great one-liners, drama, action, adventure, and yes, Virginia, there is a lot of sadness. The final battle was truly epic, in the Homeric sense of the word.

Was it a fitting end to the grand scale narrative of interwoven stories that started with Iron Man in 2008? Fuck yes, it was. Oddly (or ironically), Endgame also redeemed some of the less-than stellar efforts (I'm looking at you Dark World and Age of Ultron), giving them back their place in cannon that a lot of us fans would rather leave out.

Is it worth seeing on the big screen? Yes, it is. Will it make you cry? Depends on you, really. I got teary-eyed a couple of times. Is the 3 hour runtime on the insane side? Fuck yes, it is. But there are good places to pee (all conveniently listed here), and you really don't want to miss anything in the last hour.

I don't normally follow Canadian politics. Aside from elections and scandals, I find it all a bit dull. This past week, I've become more of a news junkie than usual. I have stopped short of a comfy chair and a big bowl of popcorn, but I suspect the best is yet to come and there will still be time for it. ;)

Oh, and another bit about politics, this time regarding the aftermath of the US election, specifically, the marginalizing Proposition 8. Well, Hollywood isn't too pleased with the results, so group of them got together and came up with a 3 minute musical (video is SFW but will require sound).

This is a car advertisement from Germany or Austria. When they finished filming the ad, the people who made it noticed something moving along the side of the car, like a ghostly white mist. The ad was never put on TV because the unexplained ghostly phenomenon frightened the production team out of their wits. Watch it and about halfway look and you will see the white mist crossing in front of the car then following it along the road . . . spooky!

(Work safe. Video has sound, but not required.)

Bedtime, soon, methinks. I spent the evening with [livejournal.com profile] clawfoot, eating burgers and junk food and watching Black Hawk Down (plus American Dad on Global, as it just happened to be on television once the DVD player was turned off..it was amusing, however). It's odd. After two weeks of not eating crap, I feel slow and sluggish now. I guess I did before, but never noticed. If eating too many potato chips and having an ice cream bar and drinking one can of gingerale makes me feel like this, then it's time to stop. I haven't really missed it up until this point (well, except for ice cream...I can eat that stuff for breakfast and have done on occasion), so it will be good to just keep it up as a rare treat and not buy stuff like that every time we do groceries.

Bed time now. Work tomorrow. I need to get quarters and bus tickets and I have to get the bedding washed sometime this week and still finish my costume. Busy week ahead. Busy busy week. I should get some sleep if I'm going to tackle it.

Finally finished Carnivàle. It was bloody amazing, but I want a third season, dammit! I know there's legal issues and money issues, but it's too good to stop now. Poopie. :(

I'll post Rabbit Sabbath pictures soon. I have to go through the disc and pick out a few good ones. I will even do my best to make sure that I get at least one of the faboo mask from this year as well.

I should probably go shower and get dressed. Or something. I feel really slovenly today and the weather's not really inspiring me to aim for more. Losing an hour's worth of sleep isn't helping either.

Last night, though, was fun. Okay, it does take a while to complete a five person game of Trivial Pursuit, but hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] clawfoot, [livejournal.com profile] joncanuck, [livejournal.com profile] the_daily_rant along with my other half was needed.

No matter how much you love someone, you need to interact with others, or you'll go mad. Although, who can tell the difference with me? :P

Oh, and a point to note for Doctor Who fans in KW...local CBC listings point to the episode being aired at 8 on Tuesday not 7, on account of Coronation Street holding the 7 slot.

So, after downloading the first episode last night and getting around to watching it a little while ago, I have to admit, I'm very impressed with the new Doctor Who. Christopher Eccleston is perfect and the new series really does benefit from computer animation. But, don't fret, there's still a little BBC Cheese to make everything better. :)

I believe [livejournal.com profile] lovecraftienne that this is the information that you seek about the good Doctor in Canada.

Must go see this movie...

Oooo...shiny!
You can bet they're not playing this on MTV...

Just select which resolution you'd like for "Counting Bodies"...oh and it's not political. Not in the slightest. :P
