Thumbs are no trickier than working the heel or toe of a sock, or at least, no trickier for me. Your mileage, &c.
I am less bummed about the needles than I would be if I had lost EVERYTHING. As it was, it's only the ones that should be fairly easy to replace that escaped the confines of my needle case.
