My computer sounds like it is dying a slow grinding death.

Why? One of the major fans is not spinning quite right. I think it's the power supply, but it's possible it could even be the CPU fan. The two are close enough that it's hard to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from.

If it's the power supply, I can deal with that. If it's the CPU...well, I guess we're really going to be running this system into the ground.

*sigh* I hate being broke.

Use your finger to halt the CPU fan for a couple of seconds and see if the noise goes away. That should tell you which it is.

What kind of CPU do you have in it? CPU fans are usually not that expensive.

Thanks for the tip. It worked, but it was the video card fan, which is now spinning grind-free.
