I first saw this link about earthquake in China on May 12th posted to AppleGeeks, but I didn't follow it until I spied it again on Neil Gaiman's blog. I'm going to give you full warning: if you have a soul and any sense of empathy, it will make you cry.

thank you for sharing that, as hard as it was to read.

i don't think it's easy for people to understand natural disasters and devastation of that magnitude without something tangible that they can relate to.

When the mounting numbers of dead were rolling in just after the quake (30,000 then 40,000 then 51,000, which was the last number I heard of being reported), it was tremendously difficult to put a human face on it or even associate it with people instead of, say, livestock.

There's very little tangibility to the devastating human experience when it's that big.

i can't even imagine 30,000 dead cows, sheep, or anything else.

i just can't.

i'm so grateful i work in an industry that reminds me of the importance of the individual... it's too easy to lose touch with people en masse.
