I was checking my email this morning when I noticed that the Killers had a new single. I don't particularly like them. I find them kinda boring, but their first single "Somebody Told Me" was actually really good. So the potential is there, but (I feel) squandered.

I checked it out and was unsurpisingly disappointed. What struck me, though, was if you wanted to get your latest track played in every gay dance club across the world, this was definitely the way to go. It definitely has that gender-bending-Boy-George-Madonna-80s-big-hair-and-questionable-epaulets kind of sound.

This video was part of 5, so I just let them play on and watched them. In some ways, I miss having cable...sometimes shutting your brain off and watching MuchMusic could be kinda fun and if you only had 10 minutes or so, you might actually catch something good.

Part of this mix was something or someone called Kerli (I've since confirmed that it's a someone from Estonia). I wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, but the music definitely has some very Bjork influence and the visuals are quite appealing to me.

At first I thought popstar wannabe, but I don't think so now. There's something else there, crawling under the surface, something a hell of a lot darker and more visceral than most pop princesses utilize or even understand. In my digging, I also discovered that Kerli had the guts to cover Bauhaus. She's definitely someone I'll want to check out, but so far I like what I've heard.
