The US election is over (although it still looks like all the votes in Ohio are going to be counted) and while I'm really disappointed with the results, I'm not all that surprised. People have this obnoxious habit of believing everything they read/hear, especially when it comes from on high (or government), without question. If you do question it, then you're being seditious, and no one wants to be labelled a traitor.

So it looks like the war on terror continues, along with the less well acknowledged war on free speech.

I think what disapoints me the most is the votes against gay marriage. All 11 states that had it on the ballet, voted to constitutionally ban gay marriages.

While in Canada, we have one more province in the cusp of approving the same thing.

Whether or not there are people in Canada who believe it's wrong, it's good to see the trend in this country is going the right way.

Putting the vote to ban gay marriage (and in some cases, same sex unions with rights and benefits of a hetero common law couple), was dirty pool. I think that Larry Sanders put it best when he remarked that if you want gays to stop having sex *let* them get married. Which of course leads nicely into the Denis Leary saying that he couldn't understand why gays weren't allowed to marry and that they had the right to be as miserable as the rest of us (hetero married couples implied, obviously).

It's not like letting gays get married is going to turn society on it's ear. Well, not unless you're a bible thumping redneck with nothing better to do than to harrass minorities.

In Canada, there is a very clear separation of Church and State. But south of us, it seems that those lines have gotten really blurry as of late.
