(And because I'm old, I still have very clear memories of Terry Fox. He is part of my childhood in a way that will never truly be part of my son's. But Declan does run because he loves running and he loves running for Terry Fox.)

Yes it's hard to believe that Terry is more of a mythical figure for the younger generations but he was a real, living person for us. The fact that so many pictures of him are in black and white doesn't help!

That is very true. I think about other events: the Challenger exploding, the Berlin Wall coming down, Montreal Polytechnique; for us, news, for them, history. It's very strange.
