My mouth hurts.

Specifically: my lower jaw, right side, molars.

I don't know if it's an abscess or I'm grinding my teeth or what. I have a dental appointment week after next and am on a call list for cancellations to get in earlier.

I don't enjoy having pain in my mouth, especially pain that is radiating out towards my ear (thanks, eustachian tube and the body's intense need for interconnected systems!). I am hoping for grinding my teeth, which is not fun, but a damn sight better than an abscess and possible root canal.

I have my fingers crossed for it, too. I'm not particularly pleased that hot drinks are pain-inducing. Thank fuck for the teething mouth numbing stuff we have kicking around. Otherwise, I'd be sad about the twin betrayals of coffee and tea.

FWIW if it turns out that it's due to grinding and your dentist wants to sell you an expensive mouth guard, there are alternatives. I had a dentist-created one which was great, but I lost it when we moved. Rather than trying to replace it through the dentist, I bought a package of these from Amazon and I love it! It definitely isn't going to last as long as the "real" one but they are way cheaper and I find it to be more comfortable. Thanks for the recommendation! I’m getting a tooth implant and my expensive mouth guard doesn’t fit anymore.

Question: what are they made out of? Anything latex is no-go for me.

I checked the box and it just says "BPA-free moldable thermoplastic" which could mean any number of materials but none of the common ones have latex. And you would think that since latex is a common allergen that it would be indicated on the package, but who knows? :(
