My kid is home sick for the second day in a row. Yesterday, he had a sore throat. Today, he's exhibiting classic COVID-19 cold symptoms. Now, does this mean that I have booked an appointment with regional public health for a COVID test today?

You bet your bippy it does.

No one can take any chances these days. Does it suck? Hell yes, it does. Are his parents fucking responsible human beings and are fully vaccinated? Hell yes, we are. (And, for the record, we're all getting flu shots when the time comes, too. Because fuck getting the flu; that shit's nasty and ain't no one got time for that.)

So that's part of my morning. I think I will spend some time with my sewing machine today. I have a mighty need to make more masks.

We all agreed that the drive through for COVID testing was the Worst. Ride. Ever.

(You stop at a security booth. They confirm that you have an appointment and hand you some paperwork. You drive on to behind the vehicle in front of you, filling in that paperwork. You stop-and-go until you get to the tent, which takes your paperwork. You drive out of one side of the tent, around the curb to the other side of the tent, with more of that stop-and-go hurry-up-and-wait. You drive in the tent, on the other side this time, where they give you some information then do the test, which takes five seconds. Then you drive off. You can check your results in a few days on a website. Worst. Ride. Ever.)

COVID testings in general in the worst, but I think the drive through makes it possible even more tedious?

I went and had a rapid test about two weeks ago for reasons (test was negative), and that was not great, but I walked in, did the thing, and then left. This was VERY tedious in comparison. So. Boring.

Ugh… sorry to hear this, and I hope it’s just a regular cold. I’m with you on the flu shot — I read it might come back strong after taking a year off. 😬

That seems to be the consensus with medical people. And even if it only gives me 30% protection, that's 30% I would not have had otherwise, so I'll take it.

Heck yes! With these new mRNA technologies becoming more widely available, I hear the annual flu shot is about to get a heck of a lot more effective too.
