I had similar issues (mood swings, painful breasts) with a few of the pills that I was on - orth-tricyclin, minestrin and some other one from many years ago. I'm finally on a pill (Alesse) that doesn't do that to me which I'm terribly happy about.
I wish that Depo-Provera didn't have the horrible side effects that it did. The fact that I only had to have a shot every 3 months and the fact that I didn't have a period for 2 years was *fantastic*.
However, the depression that I was in for the second year of the two years (that I didn't realize was depression until near the end) wasn't so good. My doctor still *swears* to me that depression isn't a side-effect of Depo-Provera, even though the thousands of posts I found on the weeb totally contradicts that.
I keep thinking every once in a while how I'd love to go back on the depo, but am soon talked back to my senses by the very reasonable epi_lj.
