I know there are those of you out there who swear by it, but I don't like Zehrs as a grocery store. We had PC points to use, so we did our big grocery there and, well, again, I'm underwhelmed.

I hate the store layout and it's always more expensive for us. Plus it takes damned near twice as long for us to do a big grocery.

So, in future, we're going to stick with Sobey's as our grocery store (which is in the same plaza as a Bulk Barn AND a PetValu) and use Zehrs when we need milk or bread or I have to make a quick run on my own (since it's accessible by bus).

That said, I should probably finish putting the food away and maybe think about getting the damn dishes done. Joy.

I dislike going to Zehrs because I find they never have enough checkouts open, but I still go occasionally because there are some PC products I like. We go to The Great Canadian Warehouse Store for big shopping trips (I believe they take PC points, and I know they grant them), and Central for 'milk or bread'-type trips.

For me, it's definitely the store layout that bothers me the most. The best thing about Zerhs is the doughnuts, especially the yummy (and massive) apple fritters.

[livejournal.com profile] psychedelicbike loves their doughnuts, too.

I go to Zehrs a lot mainly because there are some products that I like that you can only get at Zehrs (some PC stuff, some other things) but Sobey's is pretty good too, they always have way better bread than Zehrs does.

We should really start shopping at Central more often, jeez. I kick myself every time I think of it, but whenever I need groceries it's like instinct to head for either Sobey's or Zehrs.

I know. We forget about it, too, which is odd, since my mom goes there ALL THE TIME.

It's six of one, half-dozen of the other for me. Either will do, although Zehrs does tend to be more expensive.

I always have to giggle when I remember my mother telling me about trying to find kidneys at Beechwood Zehrs. They didn't have any and wouldn't be getting any, and she asked in exasperation "Doesn't anyone make their own steak and kidney pies anymore?"

The butcher guy just said, "This is Beechwood."

*giggle*

I hope she went to Central. They probably have kidneys. :)

i find that it not only depends on the brand of store (sobey's, zehrs, what have you) but also the particular location.

i can't stand the renovations to the bridgeport and weber sobey's, so i often frequent the belmont and highland one. i abhor the superstore... i feel like i need a pack mule and supplies to shop there. beechwood zehrs is nostalgic for me though and no too too big, in my estimation.

then again, i mostly shop piecemeal after work at the price chopper, so i suppose that's a lot of opinion for naught :)
